EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Apr. 11, 2015)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team was unable to keep pace with the high octane University of Southern Indiana offense on Saturday afternoon, falling 13-4 and 13-0 to the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division rival.

In game one, the host Screaming Eagles (12-15, 9-11 GLVC) tallied runs in bunches, securing the 13-4 win. Defending national champion Southern Indiana struck first with three runs in the first inning before the Rangers (8-15, 7-13 GLVC) got on the board in the top of the second.

Jake Kolasinski led off the second with a double to left center field, later scoring on a DJ Peltz RBI groundout, closing the gap to just two runs. USI struck again in the second inning with two runs before piling on four more in the fourth inning to grab a 9-1 edge.

Parkside closed the gap in the fifth inning, pushing across three runs. Zach Thompson plated the inning's first score with a sacrifice fly to bring in Ryan Hollander while a Ryan Ruediger RBI groundout plated Nick Sramek. Kolasinski singled to center field, scoring Troy Bittenbender for what turned out to be the Rangers' final run of the game.

Southern Indiana added four more runs in the sixth inning, cruising to the series opening win.

Kolasinski and Darius Hampton led the Rangers offensively in the opener, both finishing two-for-four at the plate.

UW-Parkside pitchers Joseph Plaud, Nate Stolte, and Matt Skarzynski combined to strikeout eight USI batters. Plaud was saddled with the loss, yielding six earned runs in three innings of work while Southern Indiana's Ben Wright collected the win, allowing four runs in five innings of work.

Game two was all Eagles, tallying seven runs in the fifth inning en route to the 13-0 victory.

Mario Samuel was hit with the loss, allowing two earned runs in 3 2/3 innings of action while USI's Alex Holder collected the win, striking out five in six innings of work.

Parkside and Southern Indiana finish off the series on Sunday with a twinbill getting underway at 12 p.m.
