EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Apr. 12, 2015)-- Offense was in short supply for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball squad on Sunday afternoon, dropping a pair of games by identical 6-1 scores to Great Lakes Valley Conference rival and defending national champion University of Southern Indiana.

The Rangers (8-17, 7-15 GLVC) spotted the Screaming Eagles (14-15, 11-11 GLVC) a 3-0 lead in the opener and was never able to dig out of the hole, falling 6-1.

Host Southern Indiana tallied two runs in the bottom of the first and pushed across another run in the third. UW-Parkside got on the board in the fourth with Zach Thompson leading off the frame by drawing a walk. Thompson scored on a Jake Kolasinski single through the left side. Kolasinski advanced to second on a Ryan Ruediger single before a DJ Peltz walk with two outs loaded the bases for the Green and White.

The Screaming Eagles induced a groundout the next at-bat, halting the Ranger rally. USI padded its lead with two more runs in the fifth and another score in the sixth to conclude the scoring in the seven inning contest.

Two of the Rangers' five hits in the opener came off the bat of Ruediger who finished two-for-three at the plate.

Josh Serio suffered the loss on the mound, tossing the first 4 2/3 innings and striking out two. USI's Matt Chavarria tallied the complete game win, striking out five and allowing just one earned run.

In the nightcap, Southern Indiana pushed across single runs in the first and third innings before the Rangers got on board with a run in the top of the fourth.

Thompson led off the fourth with a double to left center field, later scoring after Kolasinski belted an outfield single.

Parkside fell victim to a three-run home run by USI's Andrew Cope in the bottom of the fourth, pushing the hosts lead to 5-1 before adding an additional score in the sixth.

Thompson and Kolasinski each finished two-for-four at the plate as the Rangers and Eagles both ended the game with seven hits apiece.

Tyler Jandron suffered the loss, pitching six innings and striking out four while allowing four earned runs while Nicolas Rana tallied two strikeouts in two innings of relief work. USI's Tyler Nichols claimed the win, allowing just one earned run in seven innings of action.

The Rangers return to the diamond on Tuesday for a midweek tilt against nemesis Lewis University. First pitch at Oberbruner Field is slated for 12 p.m.
