KENOSHA, Wis. (Mar. 21, 2015)-- Pitching ruled the day on Saturday for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball squad, yielding just one run all afternoon in a doubleheader sweep of Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Rockhurst University at Carthage College's Augie Schmidt Field. The Rangers edged the Hawks 2-1 in the opener before Tyler Jandron tossed a complete game shutout in a 2-0 win in the nightcap.

The Rangers (4-7, 3-5 GLVC) struck first in the opener with a Ryan Ruediger single up the middle scoring Patrick Cottrell who reached base on a fielding error to open the frame. UW-Parkside doubled its advantage in the fourth with Zach Thompson singling in DJ Peltz for the 2-0 edge.

Rockhurst (11-8, 4-4 GLVC) broke up the shutout in the sixth with a run but was unable to come any closer as reliever John Perez stymied the Hawks by recording the final four outs to give the Rangers the win.

Mario Samuel allowed just three hits in 5 2/3 innings of work to collect the win with Perez netting the save after tossing the final 1 1/3 innings of play. Rockhurst's Alex Merithew was saddled with the loss, allowing one earned run in the complete game effort.

In game two, southpaw Tyler Jandron went the distance, tossing a complete game shutout. The freshman struck out nine and scattered five hits while issuing just one walk.

Parkside did all its damage in the third inning with a Zach Thompson double plating Troy Bittenbender who reached base on a double of his own while a Jake Kolasinski sacrifice bunt brought in Thompson for the second and ultimately final run of the contest.

The Rangers return to the diamond on Wednesday, hosting Minnesota State University in a twinbill beginning at 2 p.m.
