LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Mar. 29, 2015)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball squad earned a road split on Sunday afternoon to open up Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division play, pounding out 13 hits in a 7-1 rout of Bellarmine University in the opener while suffering from a lethargic offensive effort in a 3-1 setback to close the doubleheader at Knights Field.

The Rangers (5-8, 4-6 GLVC) tallied six unanswered runs in the opener, coming away with a 7-1 victory to begin the afternoon.

UW-Parkside got things going in the bottom of the second with AJ Kaprelian driving in Darius Hampton for the game's first run. Bellarmine (10-10, 4-6 GLVC) answered in the top of the third, with a pair of walks and a single tying the score at 1-1.

The Rangers surged ahead in the fourth inning, pushing across three runs off of four hits. Nick Janssen brought in Hampton and Zach Thompson on a triple down the right field line while scoring on the next at bat as Taylor Higgins belted a double down the right field line, pushing the Green and White's lead to 4-1.

A Janssen outfield single scored Thompson in the sixth while Kaprelian plated two runs in the seventh on a single up the middle to push the Ranger edge to 7-1.

Hampton finished a perfect three-for-three at the plate, scoring three runs while Thompson, Janssen and Higgins all finished with a pair of hits. Kaprelian and Janssen additionally drove in three RBIs apiece, extending the Ranger win streak to three games.

Tyler Jandron netted the win on the bump, tossing seven innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out seven. Joseph Plaud handled the final two innings, retiring the side in order during both innings. Bellarmine's Ben Fuchs suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs in 5 1/3 innings of work.

In game two, the host Knights plated two runs in the second inning, added an insurance score in the fourth, and limited the Rangers to just two hits to secure a doubleheader split.

Bellarmine pushed across a pair of unearned runs in the second inning while utilizing a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to extend its edge to 3-0. The Rangers awoke in the sixth inning with Kaprelian leading off the frame with a base knock. The catcher advanced to second after Janssen drew a base on balls before reaching third on a wild pitch as the tying run was at the plate with one out. Kaprelian touched home on a passed ball, closing the deficit to just two but back to back strikeouts stymied the rally.

UW-Parkside's Josh Serio was saddled with the loss, striking out four and allowing one earned run in four innings of action while BU's Austin Warner nabbed the win, pitching six innings and striking out 10. Will Birch notched the save, retiring all three batters he faced in the seventh and final inning of the game.

The Rangers and Knights close out the series on Monday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. (Eastern Time).
