Box ScoreSOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 9, 2015)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team closed out Bellarmine University in four sets, winning 3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 21-25, 25-23) inside DeSimone Gymnasium for the Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup.
The first two sets started out close, but the Rangers (11-6, 5-3 GLVC) pulled away late in both games. In the second set,
Lexi Turek strung together five serves to overcome an early deficit, and
Jackie Langer went on her own five serve run to give UW-Parkside a strong lead late in the set. The Rangers controlled the opening sets, winning 25-17 and 25-18 respectively.
The Knights (7-11, 2-6 GLVC) returned after the intermission with motivation. Bellarmine won the first point by blocking a
Lexi Turek attack, and they followed it up with a strong kill from their sophomore outside hitter, Megan Kimbley. With the momentum in their favor, the Knights led the entire third set, on their way to a 25-21 win.
Not wanting to go on to a fifth set, Parkside controlled the fourth after an early service run from
Jackie Langer. The Rangers closed out the match with the 25-23 victory.
Three Ranger players finished with double-doubles for the match:
Rebecca Roembke had 25 kills and 16 digs,
Jackie Langer added on with 15 kills and 12 digs, and
Lauren Hickson dished out 54 assists and 13 digs. As the libero,
Meghan Conley led the team with 25 digs for the night.
The Rangers return to action Saturday against GLVC East division foe Southern Indiana at 3pm.
