Rangers Clip the Eagles, 3-2

SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 10, 2015)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team finished their five game homestand with a 3-2 (25-15, 18-25, 17-25, 25-18, 15-7) victory against University of Southern Indiana on Saturday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
 
This five set match saw significant runs that changed or held the momentum for both teams.  The Rangers (12-6, 6-3 GLVC) started out strong in the first set.  Meghan Conley went on an eight serve run that gave UW-Parkside the early lead in the match.  The Rangers also served up four team blocks which kept the momentum on their side for the first set, and finished with commanding 25-15 win.
 
Parkside started out the second set by scoring the first three points, but the Screaming Eagles (11-7, 4-5 GLVC) came back early in the set with a 10-2 run.  Southern Indiana continued their strong play in the second, leading the set by as many as ten points, and eventually won 25-18.
 
The third set started with both teams exchanging the lead and tying the game eleven times early on.  The Eagles proved they had not lost their momentum from the second set by going on a 13-4 run to finish the set after trailing 12-13.  Southern Indiana closed out the final two points of the set with blocks, and taking the third set 25-17.
 
The Green and White were not done in the fourth set after dropping two straight sets.  The Rangers went out to a commanding eleven point lead after a 13-3 run, highlighted by back-to-back aces from Jessi Mainczyk.  The Eagles returned the favor by cutting the lead to three with a 9-1 run of their own.  Parkside held strong, and pulled out the 25-18 win in set number four.
 
Sticking to the script, the Rangers finished out the match with a 12-3 run in the fifth set, and secured the final set 15-7.
 
Lauren Hickson finished with a team high 44 assists for the day.  Jackie Langer led with the team with 16 kills, followed by Lexi Turek with 15 and Rebecca Roembke with 11.  Defensively, Meghan Conley was the team leader with 25 digs, Jessi Mainczyk had 21, and Lauren Hickson had 11.
 
The Rangers head down to Aurora, IL next weekend for the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament.
