Box ScoreSOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 6, 2015)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team could not secure the win against #21 Lewis University; dropping the match 3-2 (19-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 16-14) in a Great Lakes Valley matchup at DeSimone Gymnasium.
The Rangers (10-6, 4-3 GLVC) started out hot in the match taking the first two points, and eventually winning the set 25-19, leading wire-to-wire over the nationally ranked Flyers (16-1, 7-0 GLVC).
Lexi Turek sent a message with the opening kill of the match, and then closed the books on the first set delivering the deciding point.
UW-Parkside played catchup in the second set, trailing most of the way.
Jackie Langer tied the match at nineteen all with a kill that flipped the momentum back to the Rangers. Following the kill,
Lexi Turek was able to go on a four serve streak to build the lead, and Parkside won the second set 25-22.
In the third set, Lewis found a weak spot on the court with the short serve, and collected three aces in the set. The Rangers mounded a comeback late in the game, but eventually fell 25-21.
The Green and White took early control of the fourth set, but the Flyers never went away and tied the match at 18-18. Lewis finished strong, taking the match 25-21.
Lewis kept the momentum rolling into the final set jumping out to a 4-0 lead.
Rebecca Roembke stopped their run with a kill after a good rally between both teams.
Meghan Conley helped take the lead back for the Rangers with a four serve run. Parkside was up by three midway through the set, only to have Lewis battle back and take the match away 16-14 in the fifth set.
It was a team effort in the defense department for Parkside, five players finished with double-digit digs, led by
Meghan Conley with 22. The Rangers had 13 team blocks on the night;
Elizabeth Mavis assisted on six of the blocks and added two solo stuffs to the team total. Offensively,
Rebecca Roembke led the way with 19 kills, and
Lauren Hickson had a team high 41 assists.
Jackie Langer contributed with a double-double by collecting 16 kills and 16 digs.
The Rangers continue their five match homestand with Friday night tilt against GLVC East rival Bellarmine at 7pm.
