Rangers Play to Double OT Stalemate with Hawks

SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 25, 2015)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to five games on Sunday afternoon, earning a 2-2 double overtime draw against Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Rockhurst University on Senior Day at Wood Road Field.
 
The homestanding Rangers (6-7-3, 5-6-3 GLVC) wasted little time getting on the board with Taylor Schiffer-Jander sneaking the ball past the Hawk keeper in the eighth minute off a pass from Jillian Hetfleisch for the early lead. UW-Parkside enjoyed a 1-0 lead at the halftime intermission owning a 13-6 edge in shots.
 
Rockhurst (7-4-6, 7-4-3 GLVC) leveled the score 53 seconds into the second half with Kinsley Fitzpatrick hitting the lower right corner on a penalty kick. The Green and White reestablished its lead in the 54th minute with Hetfleisch scoring her seventh goal of the season, hitting the back of the net on a shot from the right side.
 
The visiting Hawks again answered with Brandi Van Booven capitalizing on a misplayed ball by the goalkeeper to equalize the score in the 75th minute.
 
Neither squad was able to break the deadlock during the final 15 minutes of regulation or the two 10-minute overtime sessions, settling for the 2-2 draw and extending the Rangers' unbeaten run to five (3-0-2).
 
Parkside outshot Rockhurst by a 22-14 margin in regulation with the Hawks owning a slim 4-3 edge in shots during the two overtime sessions.
 
Goalie Sarah Dobrowolski made six saves in 110 minutes of work while her counterpart, Caitlin Winschel collected eight saves in the complete game effort.
 
Sunday's contest was Senior Day as Vianey Hernandez, Kaela Hoecherl, and Kelly Trojak were honored at halftime for their contributions to the program. All three seniors earned the start, including Hoecherl who sustained a season-ending injury earlier in the year. Hoecherl received the opening kickoff and played it out of bounds before leaving the game to an ovation from the home crowd.The 2015 senior class finished their career at home with an impressive 38-7-7 record at Wood Road Field over the past four seasons. 

The Rangers cap off the regular season on Wednesday evening, traveling to Romeoville, Illinois to face Lewis University at 5 p.m.
