SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Oct. 24, 2015)-- Lauren Hickson passed the 2,000 assist mark and Meghan Conley reached 1,000 digs for her career as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team closed out University of Illinois-Springfield 3-1 (21-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-23) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at the Recreation and Athletic Center.

The Prairie Stars (5-19, 2-9 GLVC) struck first by winning the opening set 25-21.  Illinois-Springfield went on a 5-0 run after the set was tied at 16-16.

The tide turned in the second set as the Rangers (16-7, 7-4 GLVC) started out with an early 5-0 lead, as Jackie Langer started out with the serve.  UW-Parkside controlled the entire set and dropped the Stars 25-14.  The Rangers held strong in the third set going on to the 25-17 win.

The fourth set was a back and forth affair with the score tied eight times.  Parkside trailed 23-21 late in the set, but getting a sideout on a Prairie Stars service error, the Rangers rallied to win the final 3 points.  Rebecca Roembke had two of the final three kills to close out the match.

The match saw two different Rangers reach career milestones.  Senior defensive specialist, Meghan Conley surpassed the 1,000 digs mark after collecting a match-high 18 on Saturday, and she is the seventh Ranger to accomplish this feat.  Lauren Hickson led the match with 42 assists, and now is the fourth Ranger to reach the 2,000 assist plateau.

Offensively, the Rangers were led by Rebecca Roembke with 15 kills and Lexi Turek had 10 kills for the match.

The Rangers return home this week for their final regular season homestand of the season with an opening match against GLVC rival William Jewell College on Friday at 7pm.
