(Sept. 14, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball squad capped off its season-opening road odyssey in style on Sunday afternoon, rolling Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Quincy University 3-0 (25-16, 28-26, 25-12) inside Pepsi Arena.
The Rangers (4-3, 1-1 GLVC) seized four of the first five points in the opening set and never looked back as a
Rebecca Roembke kill capped off the set 25-16 in favor of the visitors.
UW-Parkside staked an early 5-1 advantage in set two but the Hawks (1-6, 0-2 GLVC) fought back, scoring three straight to take an 11-10 lead. UW-Parkside increased its lead back up to three and led 24-21 after a
Megan Pekarek kill but the pesky Hawks hung tough, tying the game at 24 to force a Parkside timeout. A Roembke kill gave the visitors the 25-24 edge but Quincy tallied two in a row to put the Rangers against the ropes. Another Roembke kill tied the game before a Quincy attack error and a
Sonja Burnson block gave the Rangers the 28-26 set two win.
UW-Parkside never trailed in set three, rolling to the 25-12 set win to wrap up the match in three.
Roembke led the Ranger attack with 12 kills while
Jackie Langer tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs.
Jeni Heller and
Meghan Conley each added eight kills with Conley additionally adding 12 digs. Pekarek tallied a match-high 37 assists while
Jessi Mainczyk led the way with 27 digs.
After seven matches on the road, the Rangers will finally play a match inside the friendly confines of DeSimone Gymnasium. UW-Parkside hosts Maryville University on Saturday at 5 p.m.
