SOMERS, Wis. (Feb. 6, 2014)-- What looked headed for a blowout early turned into a slugfest with the 20th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball squad outlasting pesky William Jewell College 90-80 on Thursday night inside DeSimone Gymnasium as the Rangers retained its one-game buffer atop the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division standings.

The game was all Rangers (18-3, 11-1 GLVC) at the start as the nationally-ranked hosts tallied the opening 10 points of the game. The lead would exchange hands three more times in the opening stanza with UW-Parkside enjoying a slim 46-45 advantage at the break.

The Cardinals surged out of the locker room, accumulating nine of the first 11 points of the second half to stake a 54-48 lead with 15:23 left. Seven of the next eight points were tallied by the Rangers including an Andy Mazurczak layup with 13:01 left, knotting the score at 55.

The lead changed hands three times over the next four minutes before the Rangers took the lead for good off a Zygimantas Riauka jumper with 7:46 left. A Cardinal turnover set up a Mohamed Mohamed layup before a Colt Grandstaff three extended the Parkside advantage to seven points with 6:49 left. Jewell cut the Ranger advantage to three with 5:37 left but Parkside responded, holding a two possession buffer the rest of the way en route to the 10-point win over the West Division foe.
