Â
The host Rockets (7-4) tallied the opening four points but the Rangers (7-3) battled back, seizing the lead with a 10-2 run. A
Kristin Conniff three sparked the Ranger rally with Parkside claiming its first lead of the game on a Conniff layup with 16:11 left in the opening half.
Stephanie Furr capped off the run with a trey of her own, giving the Rangers a 10-6 edge with 15:21 left in the first half.
Â
A
Jennifer Blunt layup extended the Parkside buffer to six points but a 6-0 Rocket run tied the game at 15-15 with 11:13 left. Conniff sunk another three to push the lead back up to three but Toledo netted the next nine points to seize the lead for good, enjoying a 37-21 lead at the halftime intermission after UW-Parkside was held scoreless the final five minutes of the half.
Â
The Rockets owned a double-digit buffer the entire second half en route to the 27-point win.
Â
Gaby Bronson led the Rangers with 11 points and five rebounds. Conniff poured on eight points with three steals while
Tara Knapstein had five assists.
Â
Inma Zanoguera led the Rockets with 27 points while Janice Monakana had eight points and 11 boards.
Â
The Rangers shot just 28 percent (14-for-50) from the floor while committing 24 turnovers while Toledo shot 39.7 percent (23-for-58) including 46.7 percent (seven-for-15) from beyond the arc. In a rules quirk, the game was considered an exhibition contest for UW-Parkside but was a regular season non-conference game for Toledo.
Â
The Rangers return to the hardwood and resume Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Friday, Jan. 2, traveling to Kirksville, Missouri to face Truman State University at 5:30 p.m.
