(Oct. 29, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team won the opening set but ended up on the wrong end of a pair of tightly contested sets, eventually falling 3-1 (24-26, 25-20, 25-23, 25-17) to Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division nemesis Lewis University on Wednesday night inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
The host Rangers (14-10, 7-7 GLVC) never trailed in the opening set, utilizing a
Rebecca Roembke kill and a Flyer attack error to emerge with a 26-24 victory in the match's first set. Both teams battled tooth and nail in the second set, with neither squad opening a lead larger than three before Lewis ended the set on a 5-1 run to secure the 25-20 win. UW-Parkside staked an early lead in set three but Lewis stormed back, grabbing the lead at 9-8. The Rangers regrouped an reclaimed the lead, utilizing a 4-0 run to grab the 16-14 edge. Lewis surged to a 21-17 advantage which was quickly eliminated by a 4-0 Parkside run. The Flyers netted four of the final six points of the set to squeak out the 25-23 win.
The hosts led 7-6 in the fourth set but an 8-2 Flyer run put the visitors in front and they never looked back, cruising to the 25-17 set win to secure the match.
Roembke finished with a double-double, leading the Rangers with 15 kills and 18 digs.
Jackie Langer posted 11 kills and 16 digs while
Lexi Turek and
Sonja Burnson each collected nine kills.
Megan Pekarek posted a match-high 40 assists while
Meghan Conley and
Lauren Hickson collected 14 and 12 digs, respectively.
The Rangers continue their homestand on Saturday evening, welcoming Missouri University S&T to DeSimone Gymnasium. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
