(Oct. 26, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball squad needed just three sets to retire host William Jewell College on Sunday afternoon, netting the 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-15) victory inside the Mabee Center in the Rangers final road match of the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season.
UW-Parkside (14-9, 7-6 GLVC) opened the match by scoring five of the first six points. The host Cardinals (3-20, 1-12 GLVC) answered, tying the opening set at 12-12 on a kill. The set was a nip and tuck affair the rest of the way with neither team leading by more than three points. William Jewell held a 24-23 edge but two kills from
Lexi Turek and a Cardinal attack error gave the visitors the 26-24 set one victory.
The Rangers led wire-to-wire in both the second and third sets, posting 25-16 and 25-15 set wins to secure the sweep.
Jackie Langer led the Green and White with 13 kills while
Rebecca Roembke added 12 along with 14 digs. Turek chipped in nine with
Megan Pekarek collecting a match-high 41 assists.
Meghan Conley led the team with 18 digs while
Sonja Burnson had her hands on six of the team's seven blocks on the afternoon.
Parkside closes out the regular season with five straight home matches beginning on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. clash against Lewis University inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
