(Oct. 18, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball squad earned a split on Saturday afternoon, finishing off the seventh-annual Mizuno GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Volleyball Tournament inside the Great Lakes Center with a 2-1 mark. The Rangers rolled Northern Michigan University 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-19) before getting nipped 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 25-19, 20-25, 15-10) to Michigan Tech University.

Against the Wildcats (10-9), the Rangers (13-8) netted four of the first five points in the opening set and never looked back in the 25-14 set one victory. UW-Parkside tallied the first four points in set two off the serve of
Jackie Langer and never trailed the rest of the way, pulling out the 25-19 win in set two. NMU staked an early 4-1 lead in the third set before the Rangers surged back, utilizing an 8-2 run to turn a two-point deficit into a 19-13 advantage. UW-Parkside led by at least two the rest of the way, earning the 25-19 win to claim the three set sweep and the second match win over Northern Michigan this week.

Langer collected 12 kills to lead the Rangers with
Allyn Krenz adding seven.
Lauren Hickson posted a match-high 20 assists with
Meghan Conley collecting 10 digs.

In the matinee against Michigan Tech (9-11), the Rangers secured the opening set, prevailing 25-20 with
Lisa Gregerson capping off the set with a kill. The Huskies tallied seven of the first eight points in the set two before the Rangers crawled back, tying the set at 11-11. MTU collected the next four points and never trailed the rest of the set en route to the 25-23 win. The Huskies won set three 25-19 before UW-Parkside won set four 25-20 to force a decisive final set. The set was deadlocked at 4-4 before the Huskies scored 11 of the next 17, securing the set and the match win, avenging the season-opening loss to UW-Parkside.

Gregerson finished with 18 kills with Langer adding 17 along with 20 digs.
Megan Pekarek had 36 assists with Hickson adding 20 while on defense Conley had 28 digs while
Rebecca Roembke added 11. MTU scored 12 points over the course of the match on service aces.

UW-Parkside downed Saginaw Valley State University 3-1 on Friday to open the tournament and have gone 8-1 at the event over the last three seasons. The GLVC won the challenge for the fifth consecutive year, winning 37 of the 48 matches contested.

The Rangers head to Kansas City next weekend, resuming Great Lakes Valley Conference play against Rockhurst University next Saturday.
