AURORA, Ill. (Oct. 17, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball squad dropped the opening set before winning the next three, downing Saginaw Valley State University 3-1 (16-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-22) on Friday to open up the seventh-annual Mizuno GLVC-GLIAC Crossover Volleyball Tournament inside the Great Lakes Center.

The Cardinals (10-7) mounted a 7-1 run to grab a 9-4 lead an never looked back in the opening set, securing the 25-16 set win. The Rangers (12-7) led wire-to-wire in set two, roaring out to a 10-2 lead en route to the 25-18 win.

In set three, UW-Parkside owned an early 8-3 edge but Saginaw Valley battled back, tying the set at 15-15 and again at 21-21. The Rangers took control with four of the sets' final five points, including a Rebecca Roembke kill to give Parkside the 25-22 win.

In the fourth set, UW-Parkside rolled off five straight points, turning a one-point buffer into a 17-11 advantage. The Rangers owned at least a three-point cushion the rest of the way, claiming the 25-22 set win to secure the match win.

Lisa Gregerson powered the Rangers with 11 kills while Roembke and Lexi Turek each posted nine kills. Lauren Hickson and Megan Pekarek tallied 22 and 21 assists, respectively while Meghan Conley collected 17 digs. Sonja Burnson led the Rangers at the net with eight of the squads' 13 blocks.

UW-Parkside, winners of three straight, returnn to the court tomorrow, facing Northern Michigan University at 10 a.m. and Michigan Tech University at 4 p.m. to close out the tournament.
