SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 10, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team seized an early lead but ended up on the wrong end of two nail-biting sets, falling 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 28-26, 26-24) to Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division nemesis University of Indianapolis on Friday night inside DeSimone Gymnasium.

The Greyhounds (9-6, 8-2 GLVC) scored the match's first three points and staked a 5-1 lead early in the opening set. The Rangers (9-7, 5-5 GLVC) crawled back into the set, pulling within a point at 10-9 before falling back into a four-point deficit. An Allyn Krenz kill and four attack errors gave the hosts their first lead of the night at 20-19. UW-Parkside never trailed the rest of the way, securing the 25-22 win in set one.

UIndy tallied seven of the first eight points in set two and never looked back, securing the 25-17 set win. Set three was a nip and tuck affair with neither team owning a lead of more than two until the Rangers rattled off four in a row to stake an 18-13 lead. The advantage proved fleeting as the Hounds mounted an 8-1 run to claim a 21-19 lead. Parkside managed to tie the game at 24 and had the Greyhounds backs against the wall after a Krenz kill made it 25-24 but UIndy scored four of the final five points to escape with the 28-26 win in the marathon third set.

Indianapolis scored the first six points in the fourth set but the Rangers crept back into the set, tying things up at 15-15. The score line stayed razor thin the rest of the way. UW-Parkside capitalized on back to back blocks to claim a 24-23 lead but a UIndy kill and two straight blocks ended the set 26-24 in favor of the visitors, giving UIndy the match win.

Jackie Langer led the Rangers with 12 kills while Rebecca Roembke notched a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs. Krenz added 11 kills while Lauren Hickson and Meghan Pekarek added 23 and 15 assists, respectively. Victoria Walsh netted 27 digs to lead the Parkside defensive efforts with Meghan Conley posting 11. The Rangers finished with 15 blocks on the night with Sonja Burnson leading the way with nine total (two solo, seven assists).

The Rangers close out their three-match homestand tomorrow afternoon, welcoming Saint Joseph's College to DeSimone Gymnasium for a 3 p.m. showdown.
