(Oct. 10, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team piled on three goals in the second half, knocking off Maryville University 4-1 in a rain soaked Great Lakes Valley Conference clash at the Lou Fusz Fields.
The Rangers' (7-5, 4-5 GLVC)
Nemanja Medic opened the scoring in the 20th minute, scoring his team-leading seventh goal of the season with a header off a serve from
Joshua Burke. The host Saints (3-5-4, 2-5-2 GLVC) answered in the 41st minute with Gus Reinitz finding the back of the net as the two sides went into the halftime intermission deadlocked at 1-1.
Antonio Gonzalez got things rolling for UW-Parkside in the second stanza, tallying the eventual game-winner in the 49th minute off a corner kick with
Mathew Yang claiming the assist. The Rangers padded their advantage 11 minutes later with
Abraham Kanneh scoring off another corner kick with Yang collecting his second assist of the contest. UW-Parkside tacked on an insurance score in the 85th minute with Yang converting a penalty kick to conclude the scoring and give the visitors the 4-1 win.
UW-Parkside owned a 10-6 edge in shots while owning a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
UW-Parkside goalkeeper Marco Perez claimed the win, logging all 90 minutes between the posts and nabbing two saves. His counterpart Eddie Starr suffered the loss, allowing four goals and making two saves in the complete game effort.
The Rangers, winners of five of the last six, finish off their tour of Saint Louis on Sunday afternoon, squaring off against the University of Missouri-Saint Louis at 2:30 p.m.
