RENSSELAER, Ind. (Jan. 30, 2014)-- Scorching the nets and utilizing a balanced scoring attack the 18th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball extended its historic Great Lakes Valley Conference win streak to 10 games on Thursday night, dismantling host Saint Joseph's College 99-71 inside Scharf Fieldhouse.
Colt Grandstaff drained six threes on the night, tallying 22 points to pace the Rangers (17-2, 10-0 GLVC) as five UW-Parkside players ended the game in double figures, posting its best offensive output of the season.
Saint Joseph's opened the game guns blazing, scoring the opening five points of the contest, energizing the home crowd. The Pumas extended their edge to six points before the Rangers calmly chipped away, claiming their first lead of the night off a Grandstaff three with 14:46 left in the opening half.
The lead briefly returned to the Pumas before another Grandstaff three reclaimed the lead for UW-Parkside. The game was tied at 16, 19 and 22 before the Rangers began pulling away, enjoying an eight-point buffer with 7:32 left off a Grandstaff layup.
SJC pulled within three with 3:59 left in the opening half before UW-Parkside utilized a 9-2 run to take its first double-digit lead of the game. Saint Joseph's cut the deficit to seven but a
Jimmy Gavin dunk at the buzzer gave the visitors a 46-37 lead at the break.
UW-Parkside led by double digits almost the entire second half, leading by as many as 26-points en route to the blowout win.
Joining Grandstaff in double figures was
Andy Mazurczak who posted 17 points along with a game-high 11 assists and seven boards.
Jordan Mach and Gavin each scored 17 points while
Zygimantas Riauka tallied 14 points and nine rebounds.
Jon Smith paced the Pumas with a game-high 23 points while Cameron Vines had 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Parkside scorched the nets, hitting 61.2 percent (41-for-67) of shots while hitting 57.1 percent (12-for-21) from three-point land.
The Rangers return to the court on Saturday at 3 p.m. (Eastern Time), squaring off against No. 10 University of Indianapolis.
