SOMERS, Wis. (Sept. 27, 2013)-- Milan Filipovic provided the game's lone score on Friday afternoon at Wood Road Field, converting a free kick to lift the University of Wisconsin-Parkside past the University of Missouri-Saint Louis 1-0 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer match.

Filipovic found the back of the net in the 56th minute, beating the goalkeeper with a booming free kick from just inside the attacking third. The goal proved to be all that was necessary as the Rangers' (3-3-1, 2-3 GLVC) secured their second shutout win of the season.

"He's (Filipovic) a guy that's a good attacking player. That set piece he showed some great skill," said head coach Jason Zitzke. "Defensively we did what we needed to do to get a clean sheet. They battled hard back there."

The Tritons (3-4, 2-3 GLVC) finished the contest with an 11-7 edge in shots, including a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Marcos Perez tallied five saves to collect the clean sheet, his second of his career while UMSL's Jeremiah Cooper was hit with the loss, making one save on the afternoon.

"Marcos made a couple saves and couple defenders came flying out of nowhere at times to clear the ball out of the danger area. I'm proud of the resiliency they showed."

The Rangers return to the pitch on Sunday, closing out the homestand against Maryville University with kickoff slated for 2:30 p.m.
