SOMERS, Wis. (August 7, 2013)-- 2001 University of Wisconsin-Parkside Hall of Fame Inductee and Ranger track & field record holder Carl Oliver was finally presented with his bronze medal from the 2000 Sydney Olympics for his participation on the Bahamas 4x400-meter relay team.

Oliver, a three-time All-American for the Rangers, served as the third leg of the relay at the 2000 Games. The Bahamas originally placed fourth but earned bronze 13 years after the fact after the United States was stripped of its gold medal after Antonio Pettigrew was found guilty of doping in 2008. The medals were presented to the squad on July 29th at a luncheon organized by the Bahamas Olympic Committee with Prime Minister Perry Christie on hand for the presentation.

"After 13 years, it's been a roller coaster ride because some days we hear that we're going to get it and some days we hear that we won't get it," he said. "We have it to hang around our necks now, so it's just a great feeling."

"We did it in Sydney, but this is the best time to receive it. It's our 40th year of Independence and being presented with the medals by our Prime Minister, we can't ask for a better feeling after not getting it at the games."

Oliver, whose collegiate track career spanned from 1991 to 1994, still owns school records in the indoor 200-meter dash (21.7 seconds), 400-meter dash (49.24), 600-meter dash (1:19.0) and the outdoor 400-meters (46.89). He was an NAIA National Champion at the 1994 indoor championships, winning the 600-yard dash in a school best time of 1:13.00 and participated in both the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games for the Bahamas.
