EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Feb. 9, 2013)-- Davien Willis won his weight class and three more placed in the top five as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside wrestling squad competed at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Blugold Open on Saturday.

Willis captured top individual honors at the 197-pound weight class, securing the crown with a 4-0 decision over Augsburg College's Matthew Hechsel. Willis's day began with a 2-1 win over North Central College's Casey Greenberg before downing Saint Cloud State University's Luke Belich 10-3 in the semifinals.

165-pounder Derek Davison finished third in his weight class. Davison opened the competition with a bye before pinning Joshua Chandler of Augsburg in 4 minutes and 15 seconds. The redshirt freshman stumbled 11-3 to the University of Wisconsin's Justin Koethe before securing third place with a 7-4 victory over Daniel Murakami from Minnesota State University-Moorhead.

Brandt Welcher tallied a fourth place showing at 149 pounds while Joseph Her was fifth at the 133-pound weight class.

The 13-team unscored meet was the final tune-up for the Rangers before the NCAA Division II Regional Championship hosted by Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa on Jan. 24. Bouts are slated to begin at 9 a.m.
