SOMERS, Wis. (Feb. 14, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team led wire-to-wire, blowing out visiting McKendree University 81-55 on Thursday night in a Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division clash inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
Jenna Endisch drained six three-pointers on the night as four Rangers ended the game in double figures.
The Rangers (15-7, 9-5 GLVC) tallied the opening seven points of the game and seized an early 24-14 lead with 10:51 remaining in the opening half. The Bearcats (7-15, 2-12 GLVC) utilized a 9-2 spurt over the next two and a half minutes to crawl with three points before UW-Parkside answered with eight in a row to boost the lead back into double digits. Endisch kickstarted the run with a three off a feed from
Sierra West before draining another three on the next possession set up by a steal from
Gaby Bronson. UWP enjoyed a 40-33 lead at intermission, owning a 24-2 advantage in points in the paint.
McKendree closed to within four points with 18:13 left in the second half but were unable to come any closer as UW-Parkside tallied a 32-10 run over the next 15 minutes to ice the game and secure the 26-point victory. The Rangers shot 54.8 percent (17-for-31) from the floor in the second half while limiting the visitors to shooting just 34.6 percent (nine-for-26).
Enddisch paced all scorers with 22 points, hitting six of her 14 attempts from beyond the arc while
Danielle Slivka contributed 14 points and seven boards. West tallied 13 points, eight assists and three steals while
Jaleesa Trussell came off the bench and added 11 points with six rebounds.
Caty Ponce led the Bearcats with 16 points and six assists while Brittany Willis added 11 points. Ashley Klass led McKendree on the glass, finishing with seven rebounds.
UW-Parkside dominated virtually every statistical category, owning a 40-28 rebounding edge while owning a 48-16 edge in points in the paint. The Rangers managed a 24-8 edge in points off turnovers while holding a 19-10 edge in second chance points. UWP closed the game hitting 52.3 percent (34-for-65) from the field while holding Mckendree to 39.6 percent (21-for-53).
The Rangers, winners of six of their last seven, return to the hardwood on Saturday, hosting Bellarmine University with tipoff slated for 1 p.m. inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
