SOMERS, Wis. (Dec. 19, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball squads offensive onslaught proved too much for Indiana Dabney University to handle as the Rangers closed out its non-conference home slate in style on Thursday evening, claiming a 93-65 victory inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
Jimmy Gavin paced the Rangers off the bench with 18 points while
Zygimantas Riauka registered his second double-double of the season.
Indiana Dabney (0-13) collected the game's opening points and led again at 4-3 with 18:13 remaining in the first half before the Rangers (7-1) took control. UW-Parkside netted the next seven points to secure an 11-4 lead with 17:21 left. The Lions kept the contest close in the opening 20 minutes of play with the homestanding Rangers enjoying a 45-34 advantage at the break.
A Kyle Holmes jumper just 30 seconds into the second stanza knifed the Ranger edge to single digits but the Ranger offense kicked into high gear the next four minutes, surging ahead by 28 points with 15:48 left courtesy of a 21-2 spurt.
Jimmy Gavin sparked the surge with a three-pointer and accounted for 10 of the Rangers' 21 points during the stretch.
UW-Parkside maintained a comfortable advantage the rest of the way, cruising to the 28-point victory.
Four Rangers ended the night in double figures with Gavin leading the way with 18 points off the bench in just 23 minutes of action.
Jordan Mach hit three three-pointers and notched 15 points while Riauka secured a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Colt Grandstaff was the fourth Ranger in double figures, collecting 14 points.
Andy Mazurczak distributed 11 assists while chipping in eight points while
Mohamed Mohamed poured on nine.
Anthony Harris paced the Lions with 19 points while David McGee added 13. Leanard Brinson added 11 points and a team-high nine boards while William Holloway chipped in 11 points.
UW-Parkside finished the game shooting 56.7 percent (34-for-60) from the field including a red-hot 62.1 percent (18-for-29) in the second half of action. The Green and White owned a 42-34 rebounding edge and out-dueled the Dabney bench by a 36-8 margin.
The Rangers return to action on Saturday, closing out their non-conference slate and the calendar year against Michigan Tech University. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m. (Eastern Time).
