Rangers Dominate Home Opener

SOMERS, Wis. (Nov. 9, 2013)-- Head Coach Jacob Yorg made his Ranger debut in style on Saturday afternoon inside DeSimone Gymnasium, as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team opened its 2013-2013 campaign by cruising past Lake Superior State University 66-48.

The two squads traded buckets the opening three minutes of the contest before the Rangers (1-0) seized control, utilizing a 13-2 spurt to build a double-digit lead with 11:47 left in the opening half. UW-Parkside continued to pour on the points, leading by as many as 23 points and taking a 38-17 advantage into the break at halftime.

Homestanding UW-Parkside maintained at least a 15-point buffer the entire second half en route to the 18-point victory.

All 11 Rangers who suited up saw game action with Maddie Johnston leading the way offensively with 16 points. Tara Knapstein drained three three-pointers and finished with 15 points while Gaby Bronson tallied 12 points and seven assists. Nafeshia Holifield led the Rangers on the glass, grabbing 11 rebounds while adding four points on the offensive end. Jennifer Blunt tallied nine rebounds while Amber Bullock led the team with four assists.

Kandace Crittendon led the Lakers (0-1) with 11 points while Laura Vanes chipped in eight points and 11 rebounds.

The Ranger defense limited the Lakers to shooting just 20 percent (seven-for-35) from the field in the opening half and allowing the visitors to shoot just 25 percent (16-for-64) in the game. LSSU went 0-for-16 from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes of action and finished shooting 11.5 percent (three-for-26) from distance while the Rangers canned 46.7 percent (seven-for-15) of their chances from the perimeter. UW-P enjoyed a 51-38 rebounding edge while owning a 20-11 advantage in bench points.

The Rangers continue their homestand on Monday night, hosting Upper Iowa University at 6 p.m.
