Jordan Mach set the tone for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball team on Saturday, downing host Cedarville University 85-73 to finish the Don Callan Classic undefeated. Mach one-upped last night's effort by two points, pouring on a career-high 26 points while
Zygimantas Riauka added 20.
The Yellow Jackets (1-1) tallied the opening two points of the game in what proved to be the hosts lone lead of the night as the Rangers quickly seized the lead and never relented. Leading 30-21 the Rangers (2-0) mounted a 9-2 run midway through the opening half, grabbing a 16-point lead with 3:23 remaining off a
Jimmy Gavin layup. UW-P enjoyed a 44-32 lead at the break, shooting 57.1 percent (16-for-28) from the floor while limited the Jackets to just 33.3 percent (10-for-30).
Cedarville threatened in the second half, knifing the Ranger lead to just six points at 50-44 with 15:55 remaining but UW-Parkside answered, building the advantage back up to double digits with a Gavin layup with 14:16 to go. The lead ballooned to as many as 18-points before settling on the final 12-point margin.
Mach led the Rangers scoring output for the second consecutive day, shooting nine-for-17 from the floor and collecting 26 points. Riauka was eight-for-11 from the field, posting 20 points along with a team-high nine rebounds and four assists.
Jimmy Gavin had another strong performance off the bench, chipping in 17 points while
Mohamed Mohamed added eight points and six boards.
Jason Cuffee led Cedarville with 17 points while J.C. Faubion added 14.
The Rangers return to the floor on Saturday, taking on Purdue University-North Central at 3 p.m. inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
