SOMERS, Wis. (Nov. 16, 2013)-- Dominating the paint, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball team ushered in its home schedule on Saturday afternoon, blowing past Purdue University-North Central 91-48 inside DeSimone Gymnasium. Five Rangers finished the day in double figures with
Zygimantas Riauka leading the way with 20 points.
The Rangers (3-0) owned a 54-12 edge in the paint while owning a 20-9 advantage in the turnover department. UW-Parkside shot 56.1 percent (37-for-66) from the floor including a red-hot 64.7 percent (22-for-34) in the second half.
The visiting Panthers (2-3) tallied the opening four points of the game and owned a 9-6 edge with 16:11 remaining thanks to a Ty Kowalkowski three-pointer before the Rangers took control. Homestanding UW-P collected the next nine points, including back-to-back buckets from
Andy Mazurczak to take a 15-9 lead with 13:14 remaining. The Rangers continued to pull away, building a 39-20 advantage with 1:33 remaining off a Riauka jumper and free-throw. UW-Parkside enjoyed a 15-point 39-24 buffer at the break, having forced 11 turnovers at that juncture while coughing up the ball just twice.
UW-Parkside continued to pull away in the second 20 minutes of action, leading by as many as 45 points in the 43-point blowout victory.
Riauka tallied a season-high 20 points, shooting nine-for-12 from the floor. Mazurczak chipped in 15 points along with seven rebounds and four assists while
Colt Grandstaff and
Cameron Frank each added 11 points.
Jordan Mach was the fifth Ranger in double figures, finishing the day with 10 points.
Jimmy Gavin added nine and four assists while
TJ Hemauer corralled seven rebounds.
Ty Kowalkowski was the only Purdue-North Central player in double figures, ending the contest with 11 points.
The Rangers owned a 27-8 advantage in points off turnovers and a 27-8 edge in second chance points while holding a 41-27 edge on the glass.
UW-Parkside continues its homestand on Tuesday, welcoming Northland International University to DeSimone Gymnasium for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
