College Highlights and Rankings Show (Oct. 8th edition)
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Oct. 8, 2013)-- University of Wisconsin-Parkside goalkeeper
Mallory Geurts was named the Disney Soccer/National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division II Women's Player of the Week on Tuesday during the weekly College Highlights and Rankings Show on NSCAATV.com.
Beginning this season Disney Soccer and the NSCAA recognize one male and one female in each of the three NCAA Divisions as a Player of the Week during its
weekly show (Geurts featured near the 16 minute mark). Geurts earned the women's Division II honor after posting a pair of shutout last weekend on the road.
The freshman tallied six saves on Friday against McKendree University, helping the Rangers (6-2-2, 4-2-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference) salvage a 0-0 double overtime draw before turning away eight shots on Sunday in the squad's 1-0 overtime victory over Bellarmine University. The sport management major logged all 201 minutes in goal last week, yielding no goals and recording 14 saves, helping the Rangers extend their unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1). Geurts, who was named
GLVC Defender of the Week for the second time this season on Monday, owns a goals against average of 0.79 this season and has tallied five clean sheets in just 10 career starts.
UW-Parkside returns to the pitch on Friday, hosting the University of Illinois Springfield at 1:15 p.m.
