RENSSELAER, Ind. (Jan. 31, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball squad survived a rash of turnovers and the hot perimeter shooting of host Saint Joseph's College as the Rangers slipped past the Pumas 109-99 in triple overtime in a Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division tilt inside Alumni Fieldhouse on Thursday evening.
The Rangers (13-5, 8-2 GLVC) led by as many as 15 points in the wild affair that included six lead changes and six ties. UW-Parkside turned the ball over an uncharacteristic 20 times in the contest while the homestanding Pumas (5-12, 3-7 GLVC) drained an incredible 14 three-pointers, closing the contest shooting 58.3 percent (14-for-24) from beyond the arc.
Visiting UW-Parkside claimed the first nine points of triple overtime and held on the final 97 seconds of play for its third straight victory.

Colt Grandstaff drained a three after Riauka came up with a steal while an
Andy Mazurczak jumper gave UWP the 103-94 advantage. A Ryan Rebholz three cut the Ranger lead to just six with 43 seconds left but the Rangers converted four free throws down the stretch to finally ice the game.
UW-Parkside was on pace for a blowout in the opening minutes of play, grabbing the opening six points and securing an 18-5 lead after four minutes of action. Grandstaff hit a three the old fashioned way with 4:36 left in the first half, giving the Rangers' their largest lead of the night at 34-19. The Pumas clawed back cutting the Ranger advantage to single digits at halftime as UWP enjoyed the 40-31 lead.
A three-point play by

UWP reclaimed the lead at 69-68 with 1:53 remaining in regulation. The two squad's traded trips to the line with the Pumas holding a 72-70 edge with 67 seconds left. Riauka emerged as the hero at the end of regulation, hitting a layup off a Mazurczak feed to knot the score at 72 with three seconds left to force overtime.
The Pumas enjoyed an 82-78 lead in overtime thanks to a pair of threes before Grandstaff calmly countered with a three with 29 ticks left while Riauka hit the front end of a one and one with eight seconds left to tie the game and force overtime number two.
UW-Parkside tallied the first six points of double overtime but the Pumas finished the final 83 seconds on a 10-2 run to secure a third five-minute overtime session.

The top of the GLVC East Division continues to thin out. Heading into last Saturday, five teams were in a logjam for the top spot before three remained at the end of the day. The top of the standings will be whittled to just two squads after tonight with University of Southern Indiana (14-3, 7-2 GLVC) hosting Bellarmine University (15-2, 7-2 GLVC).
The Rangers return back home on Saturday, hosting 15th-ranked University of Indianapolis at 3 p.m. inside DeSimone Gymnasium on Alumni Day.
