SOMERS, Wis. (Jan. 10, 2013)-- Scoring early and often, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball team steamrolled Rockhurst University 85-63 on Thursday night inside DeSimone Gymnasium, giving the Rangers their best start to Great Lakes Valley Conference play in program history.

The Rangers (8-3, 3-0 GLVC)  led wire-to-wire in the 22-point romp, scoring the game's opening six points. UW-Parkside utilized a 9-2 run to grab a 18-7 lead after just six minutes of play. Rockhurst (1-9, 0-3 GLVC) drained four three-pointer over the next seven minutes, utilizing an 18-9 run to close the gap to 27-25 with 7:03 remaining in the opening stanza. The Rangers answered over the next four minutes, as a Jeremy Saffold basket sparked a 17-5 Ranger run, ballooning the home team's advantage to 14 points. UWP enjoyed a 48-33 lead at the half, shooting 58.6 percent from the floor (17-for-29) while hitting 55.6 percent (five-for-nine) from beyond the arc.

The Hawks threatened in the second half, using an 18-6 run to close to within seven points with 9:40 remaining. UW-Parkside countered with a 16-0 run over the next four minutes and led by over 20 points the rest of the way en route to the blowout victory.

Saffold led the way for the Rangers with 22 points, shooting seven-for-11 from the floor and canning all six of his free throw attempts. The senior additionally led the squad on the glass with six rebounds on the night. Colt Grandstaff came off the bench and tallied a season-high 17 points while Zygimantas Riauka and Conrad Krutwig chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively. Bryant Smith accrued five assists while adding eight points.

Brandon McCann led the Hawks with 16 points with Cooper Beckett adding 15 and a team-best five rebounds.

The Rangers owned a 44-20 edge in points in the paint while outscoring the visitors by a 30-17 margin in bench points.

UWP tied a season-best with just five turnovers on the night while ending the contest hitting 54.4 percent (31-for-57) of its shots and sinking 89.5 percent (17-for-19) of its opportunities at the charity stripe.

The Rangers look to continue their streak on Saturday, hosting William Jewell College with tipoff slated for 3 p.m.
