LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Dec. 19, 2012)-- A gritty second half performance erased a 12-point deficit as the No. 24 University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball squad finished up the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic with a 50-47 upset victory over No. 6 Washburn University on Wednesday afternoon.

The Rangers (5-2) held the Lady Blues (6-2) scoreless the final 6:57 of play, forcing four turnovers while Washburn misfired on all seven attempts from the floor down the stretch.

The Lady Blues came out firing, scoring the game's first five points and staking an early 14-3 lead just over six minutes into the contest. UW-Parkside whittled the deficit down to just three off a Jenna Endisch jumper with 7:42 remaining before Washburn responded with an 8-0 run. Washburn extended its edge to a game-high 12 points off a Lavonda McCall three-pointer with 2:32 remaining in the first half. The Rangers accounted for the final seven points of the opening half, getting layups from Jaleesa Trussell and Gaby Bronson while Maddie Johnston buried a trey, cutting the deficit to a manageable five points at the break, 29-24.

The Rangers pulled even with the Lady Blues at 32-32 with 17:33 left off a Gaby Bronson jumper before grabbing their first lead of the day with 11;39 left off a Sierra West layup. UWP extended the advantage to six points off an Endisch three with 9:19 left before the WU came storming back.

Laura Kinderknecht restored the lead for the Lady Blues, draining a three with 6:57 left, giving Washburn the 47-46 edge. Bronson drained a pair of free throws with 4:12 to regain the lead for UWP while a Jenna Endisch jumper with 2:56 left provided the Rangers with a three-point margin in what proved to be the final bucket of the day. The Rangers turned up the heat defensively during the final minutes, forcing a shot clock violation with three seconds left. UW-Parkside safely inbounded the ball with a cross court pass to milk the clock and hold on to the victory.

Endisch led the Rangers in scoring for the second consecutive game, piling on 16 points, draining four buckets from the perimeter. Alayna Cotter came off the bench and added eight. West grabbed a team-best eight rebounds while dishing out seven assists.

Kinderknecht and McCall led the Lady Blues with nine points apiece while Brittney Lynch accrued a team-leading eight boards.

The Rangers return to the floor on Sunday, Dec. 30, closing out the calendar year with a non-conference clash against Indiana University Northwest at 3 p.m. inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
