ALLENDALE, Mich. (Nov. 30, 2012)-- Jessica Watychowicz hit the provisional qualifying standard in the 5,000-meter run as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's track & field squad opened its season on Friday afternoon, sending a partial squad to the Laker Early Bird Open at the oversized track inside Grand Valley State University's Kelly Family Sports Center.

Watychowicz highlighted the afternoon for the Rangers, finishing fourth in the 5K after looping around the track in a provisional qualifying time of 16 minutes, 59.28 seconds. The senior's effort was 35 seconds under the provo mark for oversized tracks and is just 22 ticks shy of the automatic qualifying mark for the 2013 Division II Indoor Championships.

Amanda Zittleman secured UWP's lone event victory of the meet, winning the mile in 5:15.28.

Jeana Frederickson was fifth in the 3,000-meter run, crossing the tape in 11:17.89 while Roxanne Stratenwerth was 10th in the 600-meter run (1:40.16).

In the field, Rachel Bullis turned in a sixth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 1 1/4 inches.

The Rangers are idle until Jan. 12, making the short trek down the road to Carthage College for the Private College Invitational.
