SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 28, 2012)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside's 27-match unbeaten run inside Wood Road Field came to a halt on Sunday afternoon, as visiting Rockhurst University tallied a late goal to claim the 3-2 victory in the opening round of the 2012 Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.

The Hawks (13-2-3) opened the scoring in the 21st minute with Nicky Alfonsin finding the back of the net off a feed from Haley Long and Kasey Lierz, snapping the Rangers' (12-4-1) shutout streak at 686 consecutive minutes. Rockhurst wasted little time, doubling its advantage just 105 seconds later with Taylor Skala scoring on a breakaway off a feed from Long. UWP's best chance of the opening half came off the boot of Alex Johnson, who's shot five minutes before intermission bounced off the post as the Hawks took the 2-0 lead into the half.

Kaela Hoecherl got the Rangers on the board, five minutes into the second half, scoring her third goal in as many games off an assist from Megan Owens. A Madison Pickett corner kick in the 63rd minute set up Owens' equalizer, as the senior headed the ball between the right post and the keeper to level the contest.

Rockhurst tallied the game-winner 21 minutes later with Alfonsin scoring her second goal of the contest off a feed from Long and Jessica Cook with just under seven minutes to play.

Michelle Girard had a busy day in goal for UW-Parkside, collecting eight saves while Caitlin Winschel turned away five shots on the afternoon.

The loss snaps the Rangers' nine-game win streak while also breaking the squad's 27-game unbeaten run (23-0-4) at Wood Road Field. UW-Parkside's postseason fate is now in the hands of the NCAA selection committee that will reveal the NCAA Division II Tournament field on Monday, Nov. 5.
