INDIANAPOLIS –
Brittany Beyer has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week the league announced today. She helped lead the Rangers to a pair of key wins against Indianapolis and Saint Joseph's last week. It is the first Player of the Week recognition for Beyer in her career. She is the second Ranger to be honored this year joining
Jadee Rooney who won the award in late November.
She posted impressive numbers on the week, averaging 21.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per contest in helping vault the Rangers into a three-way tie for first place in the GLVC Eastern Division. UW-Parkside enters the week at 8-3 in the league along with Indianapolis and Northern Kentucky.
Beyer started off the week with a game-high 21 points on 10-for-17 (58.8%) shooting in the Rangers 75-71 win over visiting Saint Joseph's on Thursday. She had an important go-ahead basket with just over two minutes to go in that game. She topped off the night by adding six rebounds and three assists to her totals.
Beyer followed that up on Saturday in a showdown at divisional leader Indianapolis. She continued her impressive play with 22 points including a perfect 6-for-6 performance from the free-throw line. Beyer proved tough under pressure as she contributed eight of those points in the final minutes of the game and grabbed a key rebound late in the contest. She finished with eight rebounds total and contributed two assists to collect a 73-70 road win; handing the Greyhounds their first home loss of the year.
Beyer and the Rangers are now 15-4 overall and will return to action on Thursday night when they take on Bellarmine at home. Game time at the DeSimone Gymnasium is set for 5:30 p.m.
