Comeback Attempt Comes Up Short Against Quincy

The Rangers will head to Lewis on Monday night for a 7:45 tip-off

A valiant comeback attempt came up just short for the Rangers  as they dropped a 68-59 decision to Quincy on Saturday afternoon at the DeSimone Gymnasium. Quincy improved to 10-4 (3-3 GLVC) while Parkside fell to 8-6 (1-5 GLVC).
 
Leneal Harris led the Rangers with 15 points. Jeremy Saffold and Ziggy Riauka each added 12.
The Rangers battled back from a 19-point second half deficit to get within five with just over two minutes left. The Hawks finished the game going 6-for-8 at the line to help seal the win.
 
Parkside opened up a five point lead in the early stages when Riauka knocked down a jumper and Kevin Senechalle followed with a three-point play to make it 11-6.
 
Quincy answered with a 9-0 run to recapture the lead on a dunk by Drake Vermillion. Saffold and Colt Granstaff countered with threes to force a 17-17 tie.
 
From there, the Hawks embarked on a 19-4 run to end the period and seize control. Five different players scored during the spurt including Courtney Belger who led al scorers with 17 points. Quincy took a 36-21 lead into the locker room.
 
The game hung around that margin for the first ten minutes of the second half before the Rangers pushed back. Parkside outscored Quincy 16-6 over a stretch of 7:34 to get within five. Harris had seven and Saffold six during that stretch.
 
The Rangers were able to force 15 turnovers and limit Quincy to a respectable 41.4% from the floor. The Hawks held a decided advantage on the boards, out-rebounding the Rangers 47-27 with 19 of those coming on the offensive end. That led to a 14-4 advantage in second chance points.
 
Parkside will now begin a three game road swing on Monday when the team travels to Lewis to take on the Flyers. Monday night's tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
