The UW-Parkside men's basketball team fell to 8-14 after a 95-72 non-conference loss to Wayne State in Detroit, Michigan, Monday night. The Warriors, ranked sixth in the Midwest Region poll, moved to 17-4.
Ahead 9-8 early, Wayne State went on a 17-4 run to break the game open and take a 26-12 lead. The Rangers were not able to make serious in-roads into the lead as Wayne State went into halftime with a 49-32 advantage.
Midway through the second half, the Rangers trailed 69-52 when Wayne State went on a 16-5 run to take an 85-57 lead and put any chance of a Ranger comeback to rest.
The Rangers were led by 21 points from Jeremy Saffold, including a 5-8 effort from beyond the three-point arc. Tim Baines added 13 points.
Next, the Rangers return to conference play as they head to Romeoville, Illinois, to face Lewis University on Saturday February 12, at 3:15 p.m. The game will be a rematch of last Friday's contest in Somers which saw the Rangers win, 65-60.
UW-Parkside trails Lewis by two games in the Great Lakes Valley Conference North Division standings. Each team is 3-1 within the division. The top three teams in each of the league's three divisions along with three wildcards qualify for the league tournament. With only four games left to go, Parkside is tied with Quincy for third place. Both are just one game behind second place Saint Joseph's.
