It would have been easy for the UW-Parkside women's basketball team to have a letdown at Illinois-Springfield Thursday night. The Rangers were coming off of a huge win over the No. 11 ranked team in the nation, Quincy, just three days prior. Plus, the homestanding Prairie Stars have only two conference wins.
The Rangers would have no part of a letdown, blowing out the Prairie Stars in a more than convinving 78-47 victory, raising their overall record to 20-5. UWP is 13-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Illinois-Springfield led by two points early, but that lasted only a few seconds. The Rangers led by a 45-20 count at halftime and led by as many as 34 points, early in the second half.
Jadee Rooney paced the Rangers, scoring 30 points. She knocked down five three-pointers in nine attempts.
Brittany Beyer added 18 points to the winning cause.
The Rangers made good on 55 percent of their shots from the floor, while limiting their foes to just a 34 percent output. Parkside dominated on the boards, out-rebounding the home team, 43-25.
Amy Selk grabbed eight rebounds for the Rangers.
"We are approaching this as a business trip and will settle for no less than two wins," head coach Jenny Kenesie told WRJN radio.
The second leg of the trip has the Rangers playing at Saint Joseph's Saturday, Feb. 19, at 1:00 p.m. The game will conclude the regular season.
UW-Parkside will host a first round GLVC tournament game in the DeSimone Gymnasium Saturday, Feb. 26, at 1:00 p.m., against an opponent to be determined.
