The No. 11 ranked team in the nation ran into a big-time buzz saw in the DeSimone Gymnasium Monday night. The Quincy women's basketball team came to Somers with a 23-1 overall record and a school record 18-game winning streak, but, that stellar streak came to an end.
The Rangers had no trouble with the Hawks, posting an 83-60 victory and avenging a 72-61 loss at Quincy earlier this season.
Parkside led 10-9 in the early going in a fast-paced game. The Rangers then went on an 11-0 run and never looked back. The lead ballooned to 37-16 with 8 minutes left in half.
Parkside led by a 50-30 margin at halftime.
The Ranger lead swelled to as many as 31 points, at its largest margin, with 11 minutes to go in the game.
Brittany Hogen played her final regular season game and went out with a bang. She scored 23 points on 8-12 shooting from the floor and 7-8 from the free throw line. She completed her double-double with 11 rebounds. Hogen added a pair of assists and a steal to her impressive stat line.
It was also the last regular season home game for Allison Smaglik, who was in the program for 5 years. Smaglik did not suit up for the contest, but was honored prior to the game. She has been hampered with injuries throughout her career.
The Rangers shot 55 percent for the game, while limiting the normally high-scoring Hawks to 40 percent.
Parkside had a huge advantage on the boards as well, out-rebounding the Midwest Region's No. 1 ranked team, 42-25.
Jadee Rooney was hot for the winners. She made good on five of ten of her shots from behind the arc and ended with 22 points. Brittany Beyer added a dozen points to the winning cause.
The Rangers ended regular season play at home with a perfect 14-0 record. The team is now 19-5 overall and 13-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
UW-Parkside will finish the regular season at Illinois-Springfield Thursday, Feb. 17 (5:30 p.m.) and at Saint Joseph's Saturday, Feb. 19 (1:00 p.m.). The Rangers, ranked No. 6 in the Midwest Region, will host a first round GLVC tournament game Saturday, Feb. 26, at 1:00 p.m. against an opponent yet to be determined.
