The Rangers men's basketball team got off to a fast start, but fell to Quincy in the DeSimone Gymnasium, 67-56. UW-Parkside fell to 8-16 overall and 5-11 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Quincy upped its record to 15-10 overall and 8-9 in league play.
Parkside vaulted to an early 8-0 lead and led by 10 at 13-3. The Hawks then went on an 8-0 run. Ranger senior Andy Fitzgerald ended the run with one of his three three-pointers.
The Rangers clung to a 33-31 advantage at halftime.
Quincy grabbed its first lead at 37-35 on a baseline jumper by Chris Babbitt. It was a lead the Hawks would never relinquish.
The Hawks led by as many as 16 in a half in which they out-scored the Rangers, 36-23.
Jordan Mach led the Rangers with 12 points. Three others were in double figures including Fitzgerald with 11 and Tim Baines and Leneal Harris with 10 points apiece.
Quincy out-rebounded the Rangers, 38-29.
It was the last home game for seniors Fitzgerald, Dwayne Edwards, Baines and Matt Gertenbach.
Parkside will play its last two regular season games on the road, at Illinois-Springfield Thursday, Feb. 17 (7:30 p.m.) and at Saint Joseph's Saturday, Feb. 19 (1:00 p.m.). One win will guarantee the Rangers a trip to the GLVC tournament.
