Box Score

The Rangers will return to Kenosha 4-0 in this early season after a thrilling come-from-behind win Tuesday night in Houghton, Mich. against Michigan Tech. Colt Grandstaff knocked down a buzzer beating three-pointer to stun the Huskies, 73-72.

"This is a big region win for us," said head coach Luke Reigel.  "To beat a team that's picked to win their league on the road is huge. These guys believe. They understand what we do wins games when we execute."

"It was really just a great team win."

The Rangers shot 6-of-18 from behind the arc on the night, but the sixth one proved deadly as Parkside came from as many as 14 points down to win. It's the program's best start since the 2006-2007 season.

"What I love about this group is we're turning into a bunch of grinders," said Reigel. "We don't really look at the scoreboard ... we just keep playing. I thought at the beginning of the second half we were playing good basketball but the score didn't necessarily show it. Then we hit a spurt a closed in."

Parkside trailed for the majority of the game until Jordan Mach scored five straight points with less than five minutes to play to make the score 66-64.

The Rangers never quit and overcame and for the second straight game overcame a double digit deficit. Parkside outscored the Huskies 27-11 during their second half run to jump ahead 68-64.

They also scored 23 points off 18 Husky turnovers. Late in the game the turnovers proved to be costly for Michigan Tech and allowed Parkside to make a late run for their fourth straight win in the 2011-2012 season.

"The game turned around when we cranked up our pressure," said Reigel. "We took our defensive pressure to another level midway through the second half and just started forcing turnovers and I really think that was the difference in the game."

The Huskies came back from the four point deficit to lead again at 72-70. The Rangers got the ball back off a missed free throw by Michigan Tech as Conrad Krutwig pulled down the board on the back end of two shots.

With 14 seconds left the Rangers called timeout and inserted their best shooters as Coach Reigel diagrammed the last play. Things ended as Mach passed the ball to Grandstaff who fired from behind the arc in the corner as time expired.

"They did a nice job defending the play," said Reigel. "Last year, maybe with an inexperienced squad we may have thrown up a bad shot early in the clock. Tonight we showed our maturity, made the extra pass, and Colt made a heck of a play to stick the three."

Grandstaff's shot hit nothing but the bottom of the net as the horn sounded sending the Rangers to the floor to mob their teammate. It's the program's first win ever at Michigan Tech.

Parkside's bench proved to be vital scoring 17 points in the game. The Rangers shot 43% from the field for the contest.

Mach joined Conrad Krutwig and Jeremy Saffold as the team's scoring leader with 15 points. Grandstaff's final shot put him in double digits with 10. Saffold also had a team-high six boards while Mach was the assist leader with five.

The Rangers next game is Saturday, November 26th at Ferris State University. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
