Box Score
The UW-Parkside women's soccer team scored a goal in the game's first two minutes but had to settle for a 1-1 tie with visiting Rockhurst on Sunday. The Hawks scored on a penalty kick in the 67th minute and neither team was able to score again the rest of the day. Parkside is now 8-2-2 while Rockurst goes to 7-3-2 in the conference and 9-3-2 overall. It was the third straight overtime match at UW-Parkside.
Senior day got off to a rousing start for the Rangers as they got on the board just 1:56 into the contest.
Brynn Darga played a ball deep down the field to a Rockhurst defender who had the ball deflect off her head and continue toward the goal.
Shannon Becker raced in to gain possession, make a move on the keeper, and eventually finish off the play for her seventh goal of the season.
Parkside nearly added another goal with about 12 minutes left in the half. Lauki'I Cheng took a free kick from in front of the Rockhurst bench and blasted it across the field to the back post.
Stephanie Barsuli was able to finish it off but the Rangers were whistled for offsides and the goal was waived off.
Rockhurst came out strong to start the second half with the wind at its back and put together a few solid attacks. They were finally able to cash in when Haley Long was taken down in the penalty box with 23:08 to go. She converted her 10th goal of the season when her shot hit the underside of the cross bar, bounced hard to the ground and back up into the net, tying the score at one.
Parkside had a chance to recapture the lead when a collision in front of the net allowed the ball to go across to box to
Stephanie Barsuli who had an open look before a Rockhurst defender came flying in from the side to bother the shot and help force it just wide.
The teams played scoreless from there on out despite Rockhurst losing a player to her second yellow card late in the second half. The Hawks had probably the best chance of the extra sessions but
Cassie Glodowski came out of the net to save a breakaway chance by Taylor Skala and secure the tie.
The Rangers will now begin a run of three straight games on the road to conclude the regular season. They'll open that run on Friday in Missouri against Drury University. Sunday's tie keeps Parkside in fourth place, a game ahead of Rockhurst for the coveted home field advantage spot. If the standings held the two teams would meet for the second straight year in the GLVC Quarterfinals.
