Rangers Win Big Over Kentucky Wesleyan

The UW-Parkside men's soccer team cruised to a 6-0 victory Friday afternoon over hosts Kentucky Wesleyan in Owensboro.  The win improves the Rangers record to 4-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play.

In the first half, Carlos Contreras started the scoring bonanza when he beat Kentucky Wesleyan goalkeeper Ryan Samuels at 27:28 to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.  Matt Gloshen was credited for the assist.  The Rangers wasted little time extending the lead when Zoran Jovicic found the back of the net with the assist going to Contreras at the 33:44.

The second half was even more dominant for the Rangers as they scored four more goals.  Ben Kreple added his third goal of the year on a penalty kick.  Jon Bebeau scored his team leading fourth goal of the year at 53:44.  Austin Robb and Cyril Simmons finished the scoring barrage with goals of their own at the 60:09 and 62:11.  Simmons also had two assists in the second half.
 
The visiting Rangers dominated most of the action the entire afternoon after firing 20 shots and holding the home team to only one.  The Rangers also had seven corner kicks in the game while Kentucky Wesleyan had none.  Lastly, the team combined for seven fouls as the opposition finished with 13.

The Rangers will return to action on Sunday, September 19, as they travel to Evansville to take on conference foe Southern Indiana.   The game is scheduled to start at noon.

The next home game for UW-Parkside will be at Wood Road Field Friday, Sept. 24, when the club hosts Northern Kentucky at 1:15 p.m.
