Cagers take down Springfield

The UW-Parkside men's basketball team scored a 69-60 victory over visiting Illinois-Springfield in the final regular season game. The contest took place Saturday afternoon in the DeSimone Gymnasium.

Parkside will bring a 9-18 overall record to the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament. The squad ended with a 4-14 league record.

Illinois-Springfield ended its season with a 11-13 overall record and a 7-11 record in their first year in the GLVC.

The Rangers will play Missouri-St. Louis at Kentucky Wesleyan Saturday, Feb. 27, at 1 p.m. Should the Rangers win, they will play the host Panthers the following day at 1:00 p.m. All UWP post-season games will air live on WRJN 1400AM.

Sam Katula hit a three-point shot at the first half buzzer which gave the Rangers a 32-30 lead. 

The first double digit lead was at 48-38 with 13 minutes to go on an inside move by Katula. Springfield cut the score to 64-60 late, but Kevin Senechalle helped preserve the victory with three key rebounds in the final 1:30.

Senechalle came up with 11 rebounds to go with his nine points.

Each team shot 40 percent from the floor.

Jeremy Saffold led the winning effort with 17 points. Katula added 14 points and Jamere Dismukes added a baker's dozen.
