Second half surge boosts Bulldogs

Box Score

Ferris State pulled away from a close game, led by double digits late, and hung on for an 81-74 verdict over the UW-Parkside men's basketball team in the DeSimone Gymnasium Wednesday night. The win bumps the Bulldog record to 8-4, while the Rangers had their three-game winning streak snapped and are now 4-5.

Shooting percentage told the story of the game. Ferris State made good on 57 percent of its shots, while the Rangers were limited to 38 percent shooting. A big reason for the lofty Bulldog percentage was the team was able to secure 36 points in the paint.

National pre-season Player of the Year Justin Keenan was held off the score sheet for the first 11 minutes of the game, but he ended up with a game-high 27 points.

The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Rangers by a narrow margin of 33-31. Each team made plenty of trips to the free throw line. Ferris State was 20-25 and the Rangers were 23-28 at the stripe.

Ferris State led, 39-38 at halftime. Parkside took its final lead at 50-49 with 12:54 to go in the game. The Bulldogs then went on a 9-0 run to pull away.

Leneal Harris led the Rangers in scoring with 20 points. Jeremy Saffold chipped in 15 points and Jordan Mach added 14.

The Rangers will play two nationally ranked teams in the DeSimone Gymnasium in their next two games. First up is Kentucky Wesleyan, ranked No. 10 in country, Sunday, Jan. 2, at 3:00 p.m. Top-ranked Bellarmine visits for a Tuesday, Jan. 4 contest with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
