A balanced attack paced by Jadee Rooney's 21 points led the UW-Parkside women's basketball team to a 75-56 win at Missouri-St. Louis Thursday evening. The contest was the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both clubs.
The Rangers move to 4-1 overall, while the Tritons leveled their record at 3-3.
Five Rangers scored in double figures in the game. Brittany Hogen registered a double-double for the gang in green with a dozen points and 10 rebounds. Amy Selk tossed in 16 points, while Brittany Beyer added 14. Cheryl Leyns came off the bench to score 10 points.
The Tritons led, 34-24, in the closing stages of the first half. The Rangers then went on a 26-4 run, which encompassed the latter portion of the first half and the first 4 minutes of the second stanza. The Rangers took the lead at 37-36 early in the second half and never looked back.
Parkside's widest margin was the final score of 19.
The Rangers scored 36 points in the paint, exactly double that of UMSL, while capitalizing on Triton turnovers, scoring 20 points off of the miscues.
A staunch Ranger defense limited the Tritons to just 25 percent shooting in the second half, while connecting on 62 percent of their second half shots on the other end of the floor. After trailing 36-29 at intermission, Parkside poured on 46 second half points compared to just 20 for their hosts.
