Men lose a heartbreaker

Box Score

The Parkside Rangers men's basketball team lost a heartbreaker, falling 66-65 in a neutral site game against the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals. The game was played in Midland, Michigan, on the campus of Northwood University.

The game, which was tight throughout, saw both teams make runs in the first half. After the Rangers got out to an early 7-3 lead, the Cardinals went on a 13-0 run to take a 16-7 lead. The Rangers responded by going on an 11-0 run of their own to take an 18-16 advantage. The two teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the half with the Cardinals heading into halftime with a 35-33 lead.

The game remained tight for the entire second half with neither team able to get anything more than a six point lead. The Rangers took control down the stretch and looked like they were headed to victory when Kevin Senechalle made a jump shot to give the Rangers a 64-59 lead with under a minute to play. After the Cardinals came up empty on their following possession, Parkside's Leneal Harris was fouled, but missed on the 1-and-1 free throw attempt.

Saginaw Valley's Chris Webb dunked the ball with 29 seconds left to make it a 64-61 game. Parkside's Tim Baines missed on his 1-and-1 free throw attempt and the Cardinals' Michael Fugate made a layup on the other end to make it 64-63 with 13 seconds left. Parkside's Jordan Mach split a pair of free throws to make it 65-63, but Webb made a three-point shot to give the Cardinals a 66-65 lead with just 7 seconds left. With 1 second left, Mach missed what would have been the game-winner.

The Rangers got a double-double from Kevin Senechalle, who had 14 points and 11 rebounds. They received 14 points as well from Mach and Baines added 12 points.

The Rangers take the court again for another neutral site game Saturday, Nov. 20, when they will face Northwood University at Saginaw.
