Kaitlyn Bettiga had a chance to ice a game with Concordia-St. Paul at the free throw line with 6 seconds remaining and her Rangers up by three. Bettiga missed both free throws, but more than atoned for the missed shots by blocking an attempted three-pointer on the other end of the floor as time expired, preserving a 77-74 win over the Golden Bears.
The non-conference women's basketball contest, played in the DeSimone Gymnasium Saturday afternoon, was the season opener for both clubs.
Amy Selk nailed a clutch 15-footer with the shot clock down to one tick to give UW-Parkside a 76-72 advantage with 25 seconds remaining. A Concordia baseline turnover forced the Golden Bears to play chase and foul for the remaining seconds.
The Rangers earned a measure of revenge, after they fell in St. Paul, 75-57, last season.
The Rangers shot a hot 57 percent for the game. Concordia won the battle of the boards, 37-33.

Concordia-St. Paul is the defending Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference champions. The Rangers are out to defend their Great Lakes Valley Conference North Division crown.
