Comeback effort falls just short

Box Score

The UW-Parkside men's basketball team was on the wrong end of a 41-24 score in a men's basketball game in the DeSimone Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. A gutsy effort brought the Rangers back to 59-58 with 3 minutes left, taking 16 of the 17 points off of their deficit on a jumper by Jeremy Saffold.

Visiting Concordia-St. Paul then held off the Rangers, 69-64.

"In the second half, we were slashing and cutting and running things a lot better," said UW-Parkside head coach Luke Reigel on the WRJN 1400AM post-game show. "We just got off to a tough start and had our chances in the end."

Shooting percentage was cruicual in the contest. In the first half, the Rangers shot just 30 percent in the first half. The team improved greatly in the second half, making good on 55 percent of their shots.

The Golden Bears made good on 63 percent of their second half shots and shot 58 percent for the game. The Rangers were 43 percent for the game.

Each team pulled down 28 rebounds.

Leneal Harris made his Parkside debut and scored a team-high 16 points. Jordan Mach also appeared in a Ranger uniform for the first time and tallied 11 points. Veteran Sam Katula added 11.

The Rangers will take to the road next weekend with games versus Saginaw Valley State and Northwood.
