UWP falls at St. Paul; Hogen named to all-tournament team

It was a game of major point swings at Concordia-St. Paul Saturday afternoon. In the end it was the homestanding Golden Bears which rode the wave of momentum longer in posting a 75-57 win over the UW-Parkside women's basketball team.

It was the fourth and final game of the Wildwood Lodge Tipoff Classic. The Rangers went 1-1 at the event, having defeated Winona State, 71-66, one day prior.

Concordia St.-Paul led 41-23 with a shade over 3 minutes to play in the first half. The Rangers went on a 14-0 charge and closed the first half gap to 41-37. Parkside scored the first two points of the second half to extend the run to 16-0 and pull within two, but their hosts pulled away again, stretching their lead to as many as 22 points 9 minutes into the second half.

Amanda Gibson, who needed 13 points to hit the 1,000 mark in career points, fell three points short with 10. However, she will have the opportunity to join the 1,000-point club at home in the Rangers' next game. The team will host Northern Michigan Saturday, Nov. 28, at 3:00 p.m.

Brittany Hogen, who had 16 points and nine rebounds against the Golden Bears, was named to the all-tournament team. Hogen added four assists to her stat line and was routinely double-teamed underneath.

Three players from Concordia St. Paul earned all-tournament honors including Jineen Williams, who was tabbed the tournament's MVP. She scored a game-high 21 points against the Rangers. Other all-tournament players who joined Hogen were Michelle McDonald, Winona State; Kali Olstad, Concordia-St. Paul; and Jamie Jones, Concordia-St. Paul.

Amy Selk had a solid game off the bench for the Rangers. She poured in a dozen points on a 6-7 shooting effort from the floor.

A smothering Golden Bear defense forced the Rangers into 26 turnovers. UW-Parkside leaves St. Paul with a record of 2-1.
