For the first time since September 17 of 2006, the UW-Parkside women's soccer team lost a home game. Visiting Indianapolis, ranked No. 15 in the country, topped the Rangers, 1-0.
The last prior loss at Wood Road Field was to Quincy, which was ranked No. 11 in the country at the time. The Rangers then put up a 22-0-2 record heading into the Indy tilt.
The lone goal against Indy was scored on a penalty kick at 35:46. The Greyhounds' leading scorer, Shelby Spinelli, took the PK and beat Ranger netminder Cassie Glodowski.
The Rangers had the better of play, with 17 shot attempts compared to just seven for Indianapolis. Parkside put four shots on goal. Indianapolis had only two, and that second shot on goal did not come until late in the second half.
"If you don't score goals, you don't win," said UW-Parkside head coach Troy Fabiano after the game.
The Rangers, who dropped out of the national rankings this week, were shutout for the third consecutive time. They saw their record drop to 5-3-2 overall and 4-3-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Indianapolis is 9-2-0 overall and 6-1-0 in league play.
UW-Parkside will play host to Saint Joseph's Sunday at noon.
